Health & Wellness PSA

Dudes....I have been battling the nastiest sinus infection the last few days, so I thought I would share my advice for staying healthy and keeping the germs at bay.

And, apparently, even if you got the flu shot, it hasn't been completely effective on the strain going around this year. I also heard that strep has presented itself abnormally, like ear aches and congestion instead of just a sore throat. Needless to say, we all need to take that extra step when it comes to our health this cold & flu season.

ONE: Vitamin C

Grab some Emergen-C or orange juice and chug it. All day, err day.

TWO: H20

Drink the recommended 8 glasses a day or more. Not only will it help flush the toxins, your skin will thank you as well. If you don't regularly drink a ton of water, it may take a couple days or a week to get used to it. But, once you get into the habit, then don't drink enough water, you'll definitely be able to tell and crave water.

Like Nike said, "Just do it."

THREE: Humidifier

In the cold winter months, the air gets SO dry. One of my biggest complaints has been a really dry nose. As in so dry that my nose literally aches. I got a humidifier, and it has made a world of difference. It has also really helped loosen up the congestion in my sinuses. Vicks makes a vaporizer (similar to a humidifier) that you can put menthol tabs in, and it's totally #AwesomeSauce.

FOUR: Moisturize

And then moisturize s'more! I highly suggest you invest in some Burt's Bees chapstick and some thick lotion. It's the worst when you have chapped lips and cracked skin on your hands! It also may be a good idea to get a paraffin dip to help with faster healing for the skin on your hands.

FIVE: Sweat Session

I know you probably don't feel like it, especially if you're under the weather, but exercising is such a helpful antidote during cold & flu season. Exercise is obviously important all year long, but it can really go a long way in terms of positive mental and physical health during the cold and kinda dark winter months.

Peace, Love, and Art

I am a very visual person, and I really enjoy pulling together different elements and creating something that is visually appealing. My decorating style is a testament to this.

However, I sometimes have a hard time pulling the trigger when it comes to making interior design decisions. If I decide on something I don't like, then I will have to stare at it every single day. Because of this, Kyra and I's bedroom is not decorated. At all. I have gotten as far as picking out bedding. That's it, and it makes my creative heart kinda sad.

I do plan to put a series of five black and white photos of us above our bed. They are actually matted and framed waiting to be hung, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Another challenge is that the furniture in our room is a mish mash of stuff we both had, so it doesn't match very well.

In my dream world, I would have Nate Berkus or Emily Henderson walk me through making the pieces work together. But that probably isn't going to happen, thus I will do my best with what we have and add some fun art pieces and decor to freshen it up a bit.

Enter Minted.

I've known about and loved perusing Minted for awhile now, but I just discovered a nifty little feature of their site: design boards that you can add art pieces to to see how they work together in a collage. It's AWESOME! They have all different style of art that come in different sizes and framed or unframed. Plus, the prices are really affordable. But, I think my most favorite aspect is that the pieces are created by independent artists who wouldn't be able to get their work out through traditional retail avenues. To me, this makes the art unique and special which is totally up my alley.

Using the design board feature, I have started saving pieces that could work in our bedroom as part of a gallery wall. Our bedding has a watercolor feel with orange, purple, gray, and ivory. Since our furniture doesn't match that well, I want to combine some of the different elements in the gallery wall to add a more cohesive feel to the room.

Here's what I've put together so far...

I really love these pieces. I like the little bit of color, but I especially love the charcoal-like pieces of the human body. In real life, I would add some trinkety-type items to add an eclectic touch. It's not perfect, but I think it's a solid start.

I found these pieces in Minted's new art collection. This is just a small taste of the variety of offerings Minted has, so browse the collection to find pieces that fit your design aesthetic!

Besides art for your home, Minted has some REALLY awesome art gifts, as well. My personal favorites are:

Foil-Pressed Maps

Watercolor Birthstones

Within Letters of You

What about you? What are your favorite Minted pieces?

Bouqs Review

I may or may not have mentioned it in the past, but I LOVE fresh flowers. I love having them around the house anytime I possibly can. Kyra knows this and does a good job of surprising me with a rose or bouquet here and there. So, when The Bouqs Co. reached out to me to review their service, I said a big ole ,"Hell yes!"

This would be a good point to mention that I received the flowers for free in exchange for an open and honest review. All opinions are my own. Also, this post contains affiliate links.

First, a little bit about The Bouqs Co....

They are an online flower delivery company that provides sustainable, eco-friendly flowers. The Bouqs Co. differs from other online flower delivery companies in that they only cut what they sell, and the blooms come directly from a volcano in South America or a farm in California. They take pride in providing a top-notch product without sacrificing the importance of sustainability in their resources.

Now, my Bouqs review...

I chose the Dawn bouquet because I love the orange and pink coloring of the roses. The roses came in a box and were packed in some sort of material to keep them fresh while on the doorstep for a couple hours. After I got the flowers out, trimmed up, and in the vase, this is what they looked like...

And, here's what they looked like after one week...

Amazing, right!? I've never had roses that looked this good after a week. Most of the time, one week (give or take a day or two) is the max that other roses last. I think I finally threw my Bouqs roses out after 12 or so days.

A few tips to keep your roses looking good for as long as possible...

  • Trim any leaves from the stem that would be sitting in water.
  • Add fresh water every couple of days.
  • Switch out the water when it starts getting cloudy.
  • Don't be afraid to pull off any petals that are starting to look a little brown.

Overall, I really LOVED my Bouqs experience. I would highly recommend ordering flowers through them. I will definitely be using their service again!

One last note...
